Completing a flashlight scavenger hunt is the perfect way for kids to burn off energy on a nice evening. When the weather heats up the best time to be outdoors may be in the late evening after the sun goes down. This fun outdoor nighttime activity is fun and safe for kids because they will be using a flashlight!

HOW TO HAVE A FLASHLIGHT SCAVENGER HUNT
A scavenger hunt is basically just a game where participants gather up miscellaneous objects in a given area. A Flashlight Scavenger Hunt is the same concept except you are doing it at night in the dark with flashlights!
Once my kids tried a nighttime scavenger hunt it quickly became their favorite way to play.

STEP ONE: IDENTIFY GAME AREA
The first step is to set your rules. We like to have our front and back yard classified as our game area. You can do just your back yard if you want…whatever works best for your family.
Make it clear to the kids that they have to stay in the assigned areas for safety reasons. Since this game is played in the dark you don't want kids crossing streets or getting too far away.
STEP TWO: DECIDE WHAT YOU WILL HUNT
The second step is to decide what you will be hunting for during the flashlight scavenger hunt. I have included a free flashlight scavenger hunt printable for you to use if you would like!
You should base your list on things that are naturally in your search area. What does your yard contain?
If you prefer you can hide specific items around the yard and have the kids find those items.
STEP THREE: SET UP A HOME BASE
I like to set up a home base where the kids can bring the treasures they have found on the hunt. It is typically just the table in our back yard or even on the trampoline.
The kids can drop off items as they find them around the yard and it allows they to keep their hands free for more searching.
It is fun to light up this area of the yard. (Thanks to Energizer for sponsoring our fun Flashlight Scavenger Hunt! All thoughts are 100% my own.)
I set up our Energizer® Fusion LED Folding Lantern on the table so the kids know where the home base is at!
STEP FOUR: HOW DO YOU WIN?
It may not be possible to find every object on the list in your search area. Remind the children that it is okay to not locate every single item on the list.
Set a specific time for the hunt and the person who finds the most objects will win.
Another way to play is to not have a winner. Everyone just has fun searching for the items on the list.
SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR A FLASHLIGHT SCAVENGER HUNT>
This is such a simple outdoor kids activity and it doesn't take much preparation.
Here are items that will make the scavenger hunt go smoothly:
- Scavenger Hunt Items List
- Flashlights
- Clipboard to put the list on (one for each searcher is nice)
- Pencils or Pens
You can use standard handheld flashlights or you can be hands-free and use the Energizer® Vision HD + Focus LED Headlight.
This is a really fun way to play because both hands are free and this headlight is bright! It cracks me up to see the kids playing with their headlight on!
There is no way your kids will miss what they are hunting for with the 80M beam distance. Energizer headlights are lightweight, versatile and water-resistant with pivoting functionality to direct light where you need it. This is awesome for parents…less chance of breaking with clumsy kids!!
