If you are worried your kids aren't outside enough…get them involved in some of these outdoor activities and they will have a blast.
FUN OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES FOR KIDS
Keeping kids occupied outdoors doesn't have to be expensive or complicated. We keep a big bucket in our shed that is full of outdoor toys and supplies the kids can grab and get to playing.
These fun outdoor activities for kids are great for a wide range of age groups and even adults can have fun.
As an adult I am not a big fan of bugs. Nevertheless, I remember being enamored with them as a kid. It was fun to catch fireflies, watch ants work, and find weird little creatures to study.
My girls enjoy these activities too. They are even more excited when they have fun bug-catching apparatus to use!
Here are some fun ideas for bug catching at your house.
- Having a little case to put critters in keeps them out of your Tupperware, LOL. They can watch the bugs inside the case and then let them go when they are done.
- Having a net makes catching butterflies, fireflies and more simple.
- A bug vacuum is also a great way to catch and release bugs.
NIGHT TIME FOUR SQUARE
Four square is one of my daughter's favorite playground games. It is also easy to play at home. If you need a refresher of the four square rules, check them out here.
This game can be played during the day or you can change it up and do it in the evening. Playing four square in the dark isn't as hard as you think if you have the right tools.
Make your four square gamepad with WHITE sidewalk chalk in the driveway. The white chalk should show up pretty well at night.
Then use these cool Reactorz Playground Balls to play. These balls have built-in LEDs that create a flash of light when you throw, bounce, or catch them. What kid wouldn't love to play light-up foursquare?
GOOD OLD FASHIONED DISC PLAYING
My husband loves a good game of disc throwing. He is good at it…me, not so much, LOL! I do get a lot of exercise when I play though because I usually miss it and have to go running for the disc.
I think disc is a great outdoor activity for kids because it helps with their hand eye coordination.
There is nothing better than improving motor skills while having a great time. Kids don't even know they are working on motor skills.
We have found our favorite disc to be the Medalist 175 G Disc. It sails a long way and does great in the Kansas wind. If you want to play at night it is also fun to use the Reactorz Light Up Frisbee Disc.
Lacrosse doesn't have to only be played at private schools! It is really fun to do a simple game of 2 person lacrosse at home in the backyard. My daughter and her friend will play and play and play this game!
The set we use is the Coop Hydro Lacrosse set. It can also be used at the pool to really expand the fun.
SOCCER IN THE DARK
All of my kids have played soccer. It is a sport that my family enjoys. We like to go outside in the evening and kick the ball around just for fun.
My girls used to be disappointed when it got dark early and we had to stop. Now we can keep playing!
We got a Reactorz Soccer Ball and it works perfectly for twilight play. The LED lights flash with every movement and bring a whole new level of fun to the game.
FLASHLIGHT SCAVENGER HUNT
A flashlight scavenger hunt is so fun for the whole family. I even have a free scavenger hunt printable to make it easy for you to get started.
This is an especially fun outdoor activity for kids when they have friends over to play.
YOU NEVER OUTGROW BUBBLES
Bubbles are something I have never outgrown. I love running through bubbles. They are just fantastically fun!
We have purchased several bubble machines through the years and they got a lot of use especially when the kids were young.
We love to pull these out at picnics…no one can resist these huge bubbles!
