One thing that every blogger wants is to have better traffic and to have traffic that stays longer! One of the best ways to get your readers to stick around your blog is to optimize your blog posts!
Did you know that the definition of optimize is: to make as effective, perfect or useful as possible. WOW…isn't that what we all want our blogs to be for our readers….effective and useful!
How Do You Optimize Your Blog Posts?
In case you are a brand new blogger and aren't even sure what it means to optimize your blog posts….it is not as scary as it sounds! Basically you just want to make sure you have done all you can to make your reader want to stay on your site and look around…you want your blog posts to translate into loyal readers! There are some easy ways you can optimize your blog posts! The good news is that these ideas don't take a long time to put into place!
Easy Ways to Optimize Your Blog Posts
Interlink to Other Blog Posts You Have Written
I have started linking to some of my other posts WITHIN a post. This will be more difficult if you are just starting out and don't have very many posts. The good news is that you can write posts specifically so that you have content to link to! Do some easy spin offs of other posts…and you will soon be linking up with no trouble!
If you write about recipes…it is easy to link up some of your other recipes…even if they aren't in the same category…link up a dessert to a main dish recipe as a great way to end the meal!
If you would like to see an example…read this post, How to Scrapbook on a Budget. You will see that in the second paragraph I linked to an article I wrote about 10 Scrapbooking Essentials to Get Your Started. At the end of the post I also put an image for a post about finding time for your hobbies! This was another easy post to link to and it was a very seamless transition!
I think this is one of the best ways to get readers to stay on your site longer! It works for me…I click around a lot of blogs that inner-link blog posts!
Mention Your Email Subscription Offer
Do you have a great free gift for email subscribers? This is a great thing to mention at the end of some of your posts. I don't do this on every post…but occasionally I will add it to the bottom of a post. I go ahead and put my sign up box right into the post to make it as easy as possible for readers to get signed up!
Remind Your Readers to Follow You on Social Media
If you just finished a post about your children, you could easily mention that your readers can follow you on Instagram to see more real life photos of your family in your day-to-day life.
If you posted your favorite quote…and you love to post quotes on your blog's Facebook page…it is a natural idea to mention that if your reader follows you on Facebook they will see more great quotes!
Link to Specific Pinterest Boards
If you just posted about an amazing dessert recipe…you could easily put a widget at the bottom of your post to your readers can follow your dessert board on Pinterest. You can use the Pinterest Widget Builder to do this quickly and easily!
Sprinkle Affiliate Links in Posts Naturally
Most bloggers are hoping to make a little money from the time and effort they put into their blogs. Affiliate links are one way to make money on a blog. If I am doing a blog post and mention a product that I use regularly then I will use an affiliate link in that post for the product. I try not to saturate any one post with a zillion affiliate links, but sprinkle them in naturally. Personally…when I am reading a blog post and see a product that I may not be familiar with..it is nice for me to be able to click a link and go right to the product page for more information!
Don't Forget a Great Pinnable Image
My last bit of advice is to create a great pinnable image for your post if at all possible! People like to have something to pin and something to look at! I realize that some posts don't have a natural image to go along with what you have written about. If at all possible though…your post needs an image! Remember…that reader may pin your image and come back later to read more!
I hope these quick and easy ideas to optimize your blog posts have helped you. These are things that I have been doing and I am seeing my traffic steadily increase over time! Remember…slow and steady wins the race!
