Did you know that there is a country called South Sudan? Did you know it is the youngest country in the world today? They are celebrating their 5th birthday soon! Unfortunately there are so many problems in this young country that it is hard to celebrate.
South Sudan
When South Sudan was founded it was a moment of hope. The hope didn't last long though because in 2013 armed conflict broke out. This conflict has caused 2.3 million people to have to flee from their homes due to the unsafe war conditions.
There are over 5 million people there in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. It is just heartbreaking.
The Children of South Sudan
A child that was born 5 years ago was born into peace. That peace didn't last and these young children actually have no memories of what peace even is. They have known nothing but violence and war.
A CARE worker recently interviewed some 5-year-old girls in South Sudan. Listening to these children talk about their lives is difficult for me as a mother.
To help you really understand what is happening here, what this video about Nyahok and the life she lives.
Children the same age as Nyahok should be getting ready to start kindergarten, not be consumed by finding clean drinking water.
How Can You Help South Sudan?
A lot of humanitarian assistance is needed in South Sudan. One organization that has been working in this region since 1993 is CARE. They have already helped over 300,000 people in South Sudan, but there are so many more that need assistance!
CARE is a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty. I love how CARE works specifically with poor women. CARE recognizes that if they can equip these poor women they will actually be equipping entire families and even communities to escape poverty!
CARE is the perfect organization to partner with to help these people get the most basic essentials for life. You can rest easy knowing that 90% of money donated goes directly to program activities and CARE is a top-rated organization with Charity Watch!
It is very easy to make a difference in South Sudan. You can find out how far a small donation can go by clicking HERE.
