Ingredients

  • Prepared meatballs
  • 1 onion thinly sliced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ¾ cup smoky/hickory flavored BBQ sauce
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 ½ tbsp. cider vinegar
  • 2 tsps Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. If using my homemade meatball recipe, please prepare them first. If using store bought meatballs, heat and cook according to directions.
  2. Whisk together the ingredients for the sauce in a measuring cup and set aside until needed.
  3. Using the same pan that you cooked the meatballs in, begin cooking the onions (medium heat) until they are softened. If you are using a fresh pan, make sure to add a little oil before cooking the onions.
  4. Once the onions have softened, add the sauce and combine.
  5. Turn up the heat and cook the sauce for about 5 minutes.
  6. Add the meatballs to the sauce and combine. Be careful not to break apart the balls.
  7. Turn the heat down and simmer for 15 - 20 minutes uncovered.
  8. The sauce should start to thicken as it simmers.
  9. As a main course, you can serve this over rice, mashed potatoes or just as they are along with some fries or potato wedges.
  10. As an appetizer, serve plated with toothpicks on the side.
