We went against the grain of society recently and took 2 of our kids to Las Vegas on vacation. It was a great and memorable trip for us all. If you are thinking about taking your kids to Las Vegas I will share with you some fun places to take young children in Las Vegas.
Fun Places to Take Young Children in Las Vegas
A lot of people asked us if we should take our kids to Las Vegas on vacation. I knew there were loads of fun places to explore with the kids and it ended up being a fabulous trip.
Casino Decor
One thing I like as much as traveling…is saving money when I travel, LOL. It is absolutely free to visit the big casinos and just look around. This typically doesn't even mean going into the casino. Lots of casinos have beautiful lobby areas, shopping areas, etc. that are free and open to the public.
We stayed at the Luxor and the kids LOVED all of the Egyptian decor. The statues were huge and so well made.
Most casinos have a theme of some kind and it is fun to explore. There are things to see outside the casino too. They will want to see the Statue of Liberty replica at New York, New York. Don't forget the giant lion outside of MGM…that is a sight to behold.
Even the mall areas of some hotels had really cool fountains, statues and even seating.
Madame Tussauds Wax Museum at the Venetian
Las Vegas isn't the only place to visit a wax museum. There are 7 Madame Tussauds locations in the USA and others around the world. The Las Vegas location was fantastic.
It was probably the most favorite thing we did while we were there. My girls went absolutely WILD about the wax figures and it was hilarious.
My five-year-old posed with so many people she didn't even know about!
We spent the afternoon at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum and it was a great way to stay cool on a hot day in Vegas. I liked that the museum was TOUCH friendly. I didn't have to continually tell my five-year-old to stop touching things!!
We got so many funny photos here!
Adventuredome Theme Park at Circus Circus
I don't know about your kids…but my kids don't think it is a vacation without riding rides. So we found a way to let our kids ride rides and we didn't have to walk around a huge theme park in the summer heat.
Circus Circus is at the far end of the strip and was really out-of-the-way for us. We took a Uber up there and they dropped us off at the back of the building where the Adventuredome was located so we didn't have to walk all the way through the casino area.
Adventuredome isn't a HUGE theme park….I mean it is inside! I felt like it was adequate and my kids had a blast. There seemed to be a good selection of rides for younger kids and for older kids. I think my daughters would have stayed there all day long if we had let them. As it was we were there for about 4 hours.
The price was decent due to the fact that you can stay and ride all day. Be aware that some things aren't included in the wrist band price. There were a few things my kids wanted to do, but we chose not to because it was an additional cost.
On a side note…to catch a Uber back to our hotel we had to go to the very front of Circus Circus. This didn't seem to be the best area of town. Walking through the casino took a while and it is an old casino and the smoke smell was pretty bad. We did not have time to go upstairs to the Midway either.
The Venetian
My girls really liked the shopping area at the Venetian. They loved walking along the canal and seeing the gondolas going by.
We splurged and did a family gondola ride and it was fun. It is pricey entertainment because it doesn't last very long. Nevertheless, it was vacation and we enjoyed it.
The canal is so pretty and the ceiling is painted to make you feel like you are really in Venice. This was a fun treat and something I think most kids would really like!
We were there during the heat of the afternoon so chose to do our ride indoors. Outdoor rides looked really fun too!
Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay
My whole family enjoyed the variety of exhibits at the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay.
It was a really, really good quality aquarium. There were quite a few exhibits from stingrays to sharks and lots of stuff in between.
Of course our favorite area was the shark aquarium. It was a huge area and there were several different types of sharks. We got lucky and were able to see some divers cleaning the glass walls of the aquarium. It was cool to see them in their diving suits with chains on them!
My only complaint was this could have been larger. It took us under 2 hours to go through and I wished it would have lasted for 3-4 hours.
Overall it was a fun way to spent a morning!
Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville at the Flamingo
I am going to be very up front here….what we experienced may not be the norm!! For your sake I hope it is because we had a blast!
We had an early dinner one night at Margaritaville. It is part of the Flamingo, but you don't have to enter the hotel to get to the restaurant and that was a plus.
We have eaten at Margaritaville in Tulsa, OK before and we really like the fun atmosphere. The Las Vegas location kicked it up a big notch!
My kids were out of this world thrilled when 2 staff members came walking over to our table on stilts. Okay these stilts were TALL and it was really fun to watch them walk around the restaurant.
A “mermaid” and a “lifeguard” came over and made balloon figures for our kids. They danced and were just plain hilarious!
We like the fun beach decor at Margaritaville…the floor that looks like the ocean…boats you can eat in and the awesome tunes playing! If you go then I really hop they have the staff on stilts!
