The Best Family Activities in Wisconsin Dells
Wisconsin Dells reminded us a lot of our trips to Branson, Missouri. It is definitely a tourist area and this can be a turn off to some people. We knew this before we picked this destination and part of the reason was because there are a lot of family activities.
We were traveling with 3 children and my parents who are older. There was a wide range of things to do for people of all ages and that appealed to us.
There are a lot of quality attractions even in tourist areas and the natural beauty of the Wisconsin Dells was a big plus for us.
Wisconsin Deer Park
The Wisconsin Deer Park was kind of a last-minute visit for us. I honestly figured it would be kind of cheesy. Instead it was a place we all really enjoyed.
There is a big outdoor property that is just full of very tame deer.
We live in Kansas and see lots of deer crossing the road…but we never get up close to the deer and have never been able to feed or pet a deer. It was really fun!
The admission prices were reasonable. The area had lots of shade and we stayed for several hours. It was a really fun way to spend an afternoon.
The House on the Rock
I don't have enough words to describe how cool The House on the Rock really is. I suggested spending a day here because I felt like my parents would really enjoy it. Well…I loved it too!
This place is indescribable and you need ALL DAY to see it all. If you love museums and want to really read everything and take it all in…get there early and stay all day. It is a little bit of a drive outside of Wisconsin Dells, but definitely worth the scenic trip.
The house itself is actually built on the perch of a big rock. The design is truly amazing.
One of our favorite areas was the Infinity Room that stretches out unsupported over 218 feet. The way it is designed it looks like it goes on forever!!
I will warn you that this place is HUGE and it is a LOT of walking. There are some areas that weren't stroller friendly. It did get boring for my youngest one…but she was under 2 years old. Most of the museum was interesting for my other 2 kids.
The House on the Rock houses the world's largest carousel and it is simply breathtaking. My kids LOVED it!! The kid in me did too!
There are things to see inside and outside. The home is in the middle of a beautiful natural setting with amazing views.
We saw some of the most unusual collections of items we have ever seen! You have to GO to this house!! It is worth the admission price!!
River Boat Tours
Getting out on the Wisconsin river is a must do for this area. I can't describe how big this river is compared to what we have back in Kansas!! It was really impressive for us.
The Dells area has a lot of beautiful rock formations that just wow you. We took a boat tour on Dells Boat Tours. The operation was organized and professional and we had a great time.
We loved how the river tours took you to cool stops along the river and you could get off the boat and do a little exploring. The kids loved the boat ride! We did the Upper Dells Tour. There is also a Lower Dells Tour that sounded just as good!
Carr Valley Cheese Factory
It is fun to bring a little education to vacation when possible. I thought it would be fun for us to see how cheese is made. We don't really have any cheese factories where we live and Wisconsin is known for cheese!
It was a pretty drive out to the Carr Valley Cheese Factory. It is a small family owned operation. I will admit that we got there a little late and missed the first part of the tour. 🙁
Nevertheless, what we did see was really interested and we got to do some taste testing. We enjoyed this little morning trip!
Wisconsin Dells is Family Friendly
We found Wisconsin Dells to be a very family friendly vacation destination. There were lots of fun kid-friendly restaurants and stores. It was a nice combination of nature and fun!
These were a few of the highlights of our trip.
