My son is graduating high school this year. I am trying to get organized for graduation and the party we will have afterwards. I was talking with my cousin who also has children graduating this year and we were trying to figure out who we need to send graduation announcements to. A lot of parents are asking the question, Who Do You Invite to Graduation???
I decided to do some research and see if I could demystify this question and possibly help other parents out at the same time!!
We are from a small town in Kansas and probably don't do things the same as large fancy schools in other parts of the country. We send graduation announcements out in the mail and it is assumed that very few people will actually attend the ceremony itself. The graduation announcement will have an invitation for the graduation party included and most people will come by and congratulate the graduate at the party.
It is still a good idea to sit down and think about who you want to send graduation announcements to. Announcements are very expensive and you don't want to order more than you really need. I didn't buy our announcements through the school because they are expensive, boring and totally non-personal. I created an announcement for my son on Shutterfly and was thrilled with the outcome!
Who Do You Invite to Graduation
Here are some people you need to remember:
- Relatives
- Close Family Friends
- Neighbors
- Church members you know well
- Families of the graduates closest friends
- People you would send a Christmas card to
- If your graduate has worked during high school, it may be appropriate to send an announcement to their employers, coworkers
This list seems kind of short, but I think that graduation announcements should really only be sent to people who know you and your graduate pretty well. It isn't typical to send announcements to people who only know YOU the parents, but do not know your child.
Now that you have an idea of who you need to invite to the celebrations….let's get to making the list! Here are some free printables for you to keep track of who you are inviting and their address! There is also a spot to note if a gift is sent and to help you keep track of thank you cards!! I have been using this printable and every few days I have to add a name I had not thought of yet!! It is definitely a work in progress….good thing I ordered some extra announcements, LOL!
