You have probably seen those travel pictures where the beach is just pristine and there are hammocks over the water. A place that just looks like paradise. I have seen those pictures too, but had never been to a place that ended up really looking as good as the pictures until we spent a day at Las Caletas Beach Hideaway in Puerto Vallarta.

Las Caletas Beach Hideaway in Puerto Vallarta
We will never forget the day we spent at Las Caletas Beach Hideaway in Puerto Vallarta. It was fabulous! I read about it on the Vallarta Adventures website before our vacation. It sounded almost too good to be true.
I decided to go ahead and book our family for the day trip and I am so glad we did.
This is an exclusive location that you can only access through Vallarta Adventures. It is a secluded beach hideaway nestled in the Sierra Madre Mountains. Did I mention that you can only get there by boat?? 😆
What is Included?
When you book your day trip to Las Caletas you will get an all-inclusive day of fun and adventure. You will ride a boat about an hour over to the beach hideaway.
The staff on the boat makes the boat ride fun. It is also a beautiful ride over because you can see the whole shore line of Puerto Vallarta.
Once you arrive there are countless activities to do and a light breakfast and full lunch are included. There is also an open bar for people who wish to drink.
Activities for All Ages
There really are activities for all ages at Las Caletas. We had a 4-year-old, an 11-year-old and a 15-year-old with us when we went. They all had a great time.
There are some restrictions on certain activities for safety reasons. Be sure to read over all of those rules on the website before booking so no one is disappointed when you arrive.
Kids Adventure Park
I love all the fun things there were for my kids to do. The Kids Adventure Park offered MORE activities then we had time for.
My 11-year-old LOVED the zip line. It was her first time to zip line and I felt like it was just the right balance of adventure.
The girls both enjoyed the donkey ride through the mountain paths and they also enjoyed getting to interact with a monkey.
There were other kids crafts, face painting, etc going on, but we didn't opt to do those. It was HOT when we were there in July so face painting would have been a mess, LOL.
The staff who assisted with the kids area seemed well-trained and safety was a top priority. There is a lot of walking and some of it is up mountain paths. This did get tiring for our youngest.
Teen Adventure Tour
We saw some of the things available in the teen adventure tour, but our oldest daughter didn't want to participate on her own.
Some of the available activities specifically for teens are: hillside water slide, catapulting thought the air from the blob and other thrill type fun. The age restrictions wouldn't allow our middle daughter to do these or else I am sure both girls would have done it all together.
Water Activities
We spent a good portion of our day at the beach area. It was so pretty and relaxing. Part of the time was spent snorkeling. There is snorkeling equipment available to use.
They also offer kayaking equipment, paddleboards and even inner tubes for floating. We did some kayaking and floated around in inner tubes.
There are lots of hammocks and beach chairs around for relaxing. Staff was available to help whenever we needed assistance.
It was fun to swim out to a floating deck with a hammock stand! The girls thought that was so cool.
Food
When we got off the boat they were offering a light breakfast. There was freshly squeezed tropical juices that were delish.
There are multiple eating areas at Las Caletas because the landscape doesn't allow for one large restaurant. These are open air seating areas.
The food for lunch was really tasty. It was traditional Mexican food and there were lots of options. It is a buffet style meal and it was much better than I expected.
Photography
The setting was not conducive to having your cell phone out taking pictures. Luckily they have photographers all over the place taking pictures of your adventure.
As an avid scrapbooker I LOVED that this was on option. I wanted to have some great pictures of our day, but didn't want to risk ruining my phone or camera.
I will tell you that the pictures were pricey, but to me it was worth it. We got some great shots to go along with our great memories. I opted to buy the flash drive with all the images.
Drawbacks
Nothing is perfect and even though we loved our day at Las Caletas Beach Hideaway there were a few things that we didn't care for.
You are spending the day in a beach setting, but don't really have access to convenient ways to clean up before the boat ride home. They do have outside showers for rinsing off, but then you have to walk back to the boat on sandy paths and you just get dirty again.
We were there during the summer and the weather was very hot and humid. There is a lot of uphill walking and it was tiring in the heat and humidity.
I would have liked to have had more access to drinking water while we were there, especially at the beach.
It is a fun, but tiring day and when you are done you still have a long boat ride back and then a transfer to the hotel. The whole family was absolutely exhausted when we got back on the boat!
We Would Go Again
We would definitely go again if we visit Puerto Vallarta in the future. There were lots of activities we didn't have time to do while we were at Las Caletas.
It was definitely worth the time and money. My girls are STILL talking about it regularly!!
