This book was provided to me to review and is a sponsored post, but all thoughts and opinions are my own!
I think that most Christian parents want to keep Christ in Christmas for their families! I was excited to get the opportunity to review a new children's book out this season that will help me do just that! The book is called The Gift Giver by Jacob Haslem and Nick Allen.
I always try to remind my children why we celebrate Christmas. We try to weave Christ into many of our activities during December. I am also a Christian parent who loves Santa Claus and the fun his legend brings. It can be hard to balance Santa Claus and keeping Christ in Christmas! Sometimes it can be something as simple as a book that can help us keep our focus on Jesus!
The Gift Giver is a beautifully written and illustrated book that shows another side to Santa Claus and how Santa can point to the truth of the season, Jesus Christ! I really loved the pictures throughout the book. The illustrations by Elissa Weaver are warm and inviting and really drew me into the story.
The focus of the story is about giving to others and remembering what Christ has given to us! I think that children will enjoy reading this book and it will definitely be a book we read every year at Christmas time! I really loved how the author drew connections between common Christmas traditions and Jesus!
My 9-year-old daughter really enjoyed the book. It is a little too wordy for my toddler, but she did love to look at the pictures. My 9-year-old asked some great insightful questions and we were able to talk about why Christmas is so important! The book really held her attention and allowed us to have a meaningful conversation afterwards! I love books that breed discussion!!
My Daughter's Thoughts on The Gift Giver
Here are some of the things my daughter mentioned specifically about the book: “I liked the part when Santa told the boy about the Lord. I liked how he told about the red robe representing the blood of Jesus. I loved how he left his city to give the kids presents and how he gave his own treasures to the needy.” I asked my daughter how this book could help her have a better Christmas season and she said that she said that it reminds her that it is not all about the gifts. It is about God and the birth of Jesus!
My daughter told me later that she wanted our family to read this book every year!! 🙂 I felt like she gained a lot of insight into Christmas from reading this book!
I would recommend this book wholeheartedly! You can find the book on the author's website or on Amazon! What are your favorite books for Christmas?
