Have you ever taken your kids hiking? I am going to let you know that I think you should go hiking with your kids SOON! It is an activity I think your family will grow to love and there are so many benefits!
Why You Should Go Hiking With Your Kids
Hiking Provides Quality Time Together
I will be honest and say that my family can always use more quality time together. We are together a LOT…but how much of that time is focused and quality? Honestly…not enough I am sad to admit. Hiking is a distraction free way to spend time with your children.
You will have time to TALK to each other. Time to listen to each other. Maybe even time to annoy each other…at least that happens in my family! 😆 I forced my kids to listen to “oldies” part of the time we hiked…that really annoyed them, LOL! I felt like I was giving them some lessons in what real music sounds like!!
Hiking is the Perfect Way to be Unplugged
I am too plugged in…my kids are too plugged in….our whole society is too plugged in. Hiking really provides a way to unplug and get screen free for a while. There are no plug-ins out in nature…at least not that I have seen. 😆 This is a great way to remind your children that you can have fun without technology.
Hiking is a Great Teaching Tool
I am in no way an expert in nature, but I do find myself answering a lot of questions when we go out hiking. My kids see things they don't see in their daily lives. They are inquisitive about plants, trees, bugs, bees and it is FUN to teach them things in an informal setting. This is really the best way for kids to learn…while living life!
Hiking is a Great Way to Stay Active as a Family
I am kind of an old mom. We spaced our kids out…way out! I am 41 and have kids that range from 18 down to 3 years old. I have a LONG ways to go before my nest is empty, LOL! I have to stay active so I can keep up with my little blessings. Hiking provides a great outlet for me to be active with my kids!!
I have started to really feel my age the past 2 years or so. Lots more aches and pains…especially in my knees and hips. Yes…I had been warned this was coming, but hoped I would be spared. No such luck! I don't want to be “that mom” who is too old to go out and have fun with my kids. One thing that helps me is Caltrate® Bone & Joint Health*
I know that the older I get the more important it is to maintain strong bones and flexible joints so I can keep hiking with my kids. I found an easy way to help maintain my strong bones and flexible joints with just one tablet of Caltrate® Bone & Joint Health* each day. Hiking Gives You Fresh Air and Gets You in Touch With Nature
I am not sure how it happens, but my inner spirit just soars when I get out hiking. Being out in nature, away from all the worries of life…just makes me feel CONTENT!! It seems to work for my children too. Fresh air, sunshine, trees, flowers…just all lend themselves to peace and contentment.

We recently did a 3 mile hike in the woods. Oh my gosh was it quite the adventure with our three unseasoned kids! #client
My family loves to go on hikes! We have a local trail that takes us along and at times through a creek to see many waterfalls – it’s a favorite.
That sounds lovely! Wish we had more waterfalls in Kansas!!
My parents took us for hikes ALL the time. Now that i’m older, I still enjoy outside more than inside.
These are great reasons to spend some time hiking. It’s crazy how refreshing it can be to spend some time in nature.
I love hiking, it’s one of the most relaxing things that you can do. It’s good to take the kids as well, especially since it’s a great time to catch up and just focus on nature and each other.
When I was a kid we used to go hiking all the time. I loved being outdoors and exploring. You never know what you might find.
