There are some really good reasons that Box Elder County is known for its birding. Box Elder County has the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. This refuge is one of the best birding destinations in the entire world! There are almost 80,000 acres of land that are home to over 250 species of birds.
This is the perfect spot to locate and add rare birds to your list! The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge has the James V. Hansen Wildlife Education Center with knowledgeable staff to answer your questions. There is also a 12 miles auto tour that will lead you through the wetland and marshes of the Bear River Delta.
Other Fun Family Activities to Do in Box Elder County Utah
Crystal Hot Springs are natural hot springs with a rich history in Honeyville, Utah. These natural springs were home to many generations of Native Americans. Over the years the high mineral content in the springs has drawn visitors from around the world. Crystal Hot Springs now offers a beautiful family friendly location with swimming, water slides and even camping.
Sun Tunnels and Spiral Jetty are two very interesting land art areas that kids and adults would enjoy visiting while in the Box Elder area. These land art projects were designed and created by husband and wife artists, Robert Smithson and Nancy Holt at different times. These are great day activities for families!
Maddox Ranch House is a MUST EAT location for anyone visiting Box Elder County. Maddox Ranch House is said to be one of the most popular places to eat in all of Utah. This restaurant is known for its completely made from scratch unique menu. Fine dining has been going on for families at Maddox Ranch House since 1949.
Utah's Official Fruitway is along Highway 89 in the communities of Willard and Perry. During the summer this part of the highway comes alive with fruit and vegetable stands. There are lots of orchards and farms in this part of Utah. Tourists drive hours to buy bushels of fresh, local produce!
History Comes Alive in Box Elder County Utah
The Golden Spike National Historic Site is a great place for history buffs to visit. This was the location where the first transcontinental railroad was completed in 1869. There is a visitor's center and you can also wander around the tracks. There are lots of life-size, fully operational replicas of railroad equipment that visitors enjoy seeing. Visitors can stand in the actual spot the golden spike was driven and even participate in daily reenactment ceremonies.
Wagon Land Adventures is a wonderful place for history lovers. You can make an appointment to see a huge private collection of horse-drawn vehicles of all kinds. There is also a lot of history in the property that Wagon Land Adventures sits on so be sure to ask all about it!

These photos are fabulous! One of my favourite times of the day is when I go into my room and watch the birds outside my window in our backyard trees. Bird watching is fabulous for the whole family!

We love to go bird watching. It reminds me of when I used to spend weekends with my Grandma and we used to watch the birds together. Maybe it’s time to book a vacation with my grandma.
