SUPPLIES FOR MARDI GRAS SLIME
The fewer ingredients the better in my opinion. This easy slime recipe only has 5 ingredients in total.
- Elmer's Glue in Purple, Gold, and Green
- Warm Water
- Baking Soda
- Contact Lens Solution
- Foil Confetti or small toys, if desired
HOW TO MAKE DIY MARDI GRAS SLIME
You will be making three separate bowls of slime. One purple, one gold and one green bowl of slime. This will give you the chance to keep the colors separate or swirl them together if you choose.
STEP ONE: GLUE
Start off by emptying each bottle of Elmer's colored glue into separate bowls. One bowl for purple, one bowl for green and one bowl for gold.
STEP TWO: ADD WATER
Fill each empty glue bottle about 1/3 full with warm water. This equals about 1/4 cup of water in each bottle.
After the water is in the glue bottle put the lid back on and shake the bottle really well so the remaining glue combines with the water.
Pour the liquid into the bowl with the glue and stir to combine.
Do this for each colored glue bottle.
STEP THREE: ADD BAKING SODA
Now add 1/2 teaspoon baking soda into each bowl and stir it so it is mixed thoroughly.
STEP FOUR: ADD FOIL OR TOYS
Adding foil, glitter or small toys is optional but definitely adds to the fun.
If you are adding some extra items to the slime add them now and stir to combine.
STEP FIVE: ADD CONTACTS LENS SOLUTION
It is time to add contact lens solution to each bowl and stir it very well. You need to use a contact lens solution that contains boric acid.
If you use glitter glue you will not need quite as much contact solution.
Add the contact solution slowly and stir between each little addition of the solution. You will stop adding the solution as soon as the blue comes together into a soft ball.
STEP SIX: KNEAD SLIME
Take the slime out of the bowl and leave any excess liquid in the bowl.
Start kneading the slime. It will be sticky but as you play with the slime and knead it the stickiness will go away. When the slime is no longer sticky it is ready to play with.
Always store the slime in an airtight container.

This easy DIY Mardi Gras Slime is easy to make and only 5 ingredients. Purple, green and gold slime make for a fun kids activity.
- 3 bottles Elmer's Glue in each: purple, gold, green one purple, one green, one gold
- 1 1/2 cups warm water divided, 1/2 cup in each bowl
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda 1/2 teaspoon for each batch
- 3 tablespoons contact lens solution containing boric acid, 1 tablespoon for each batch
- Toys or foil confetti if desired
-
You will make three separate batches of slime with one in each color. Empty the glue into a large bowl.
-
Fill the empty glue bottle about ⅓ full with warm water (about ¼ cup) and seal with the lid. Shake well to combine the remaining glue with the water. Pour into bowl with glue and stir to combine. Add the baking soda to the glue and stir to mix thoroughly.
-
If you are adding additional glitter or confetti, stir the glitter into the glue mixture.
-
Add contact lens solution to the glue mixture and stir well. (Note: regular glue will require less contact lens solution than glitter glue. Add the contact lens solution slowly, mixing between additions, and add only enough to bring the glue together into a soft ball.)
-
Remove the slime from the bowl allowing any excess liquid to remain in the bowl. The slime will be sticky. Begin to play with the slime, kneading it as you would bread dough, to bring the slime together. The slime is ready when no longer sticky.
-
Repeat the whole process for each color of slime. Best if stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator when not in use.
