WHAT IS A VETERAN?
A veteran is someone who has been part and served in the military. Check below to learn more about what a veteran is:
- Veterans are people who used to be in the army, navy, air force, or another branch of the military.
- They put a lot of effort into keeping their nation safe.
- Veterans have completed their service and are no longer considered soldiers.
- They may have flown aircraft, sailed ships, assisted in combat, or provided care and support.
- They can be either males or women.
- Consider veterans to be superheroes without capes in real life; they have already accomplished their major task and are now entitled to the title of veteran.

HOW TO TEACH YOUR KIDS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF VETERANS?
It can be easy, important, and even enjoyable to teach children about soldiers. Here are a few kid-friendly strategies to foster an appreciation and understanding of veterans:
1. EXPLAIN IT TO THEM IN THE MOST SIMPLEST WAY
Remind them that veterans are former service members who have devoted their lives to serving and defending their nation. You can simply tell them what they did for the country.
2. THROUGH STORIES AND BOOKS
Kids love listening to stories. This would be a fun way to teach them about veterans. Through stories they can imagine more and sometimes understand more about it. Books help make information stick with children. Also, kids are more receptive to stories than to discussions.
3. MAKING USE OF CRAFTS
Worksheets and crafts entertain kids which makes them more interested in learning about something. Sometimes enjoyable crafts can teach them more without them even knowing. There are lots of activities they can do. Just like this printable, they can color, draw, write notes, or even make cards. These simple things contribute a lot.
4. MODEL GRATITUDE
Show them how they can be thankful to our veterans. You can also educate them on how they should honor them in small ways. This can easily be done by taking a moment of silence or standing silently while the national anthem is playing.
5. TRY MAKING IT RELATABLE
Connecting with them is the best way for them to understand things. If you can explain veterans that is relatable to them will make them want to know more. You can also compare doctors, firefighters, or policemen to veterans for them to cleary see the idea of what a veteran is.
