My kids love to color and it is a great time to talk to them about all sorts of topics. When May 5th rolls around we can color these Cinco de Mayo Color Pages and talk about what Cinco de Mayo actually is about.

WHAT IS THIS CELEBRATION ABOUT?

Although I am not Hispanic, I do love the Cinco de Mayo celebration. There is the amazing food…but it is also fun to learn more about other cultures and their traditions and customs. My kids love all the bright colors associated with Cinco de Mayo and these Cinco de Mayo color pages will show it too!

The US has really embraced Cinco de Mayo as a way to highlight the Mexican-American culture. The true Cinco de Mayo holiday in Mexico is all about their victory over the French Empire on May 5, 1962 at the Battle of Pueblo. The commemoration of this battle in Mexico is typically celebrated more modestly than in the US. They will have military type parades or ceremonies. They do not have the large festive celebrations that we have here in the US on May 5th.

There are celebrations held all over the country that involve bright colors, food, ceremonies and celebrations. One of the biggest Cinco de Mayo celebrations is the Fiesta Broadway that is held annually in LA.
