4 Signs Your Hearing Health Isn’t as Good as It Used To Be

Many people imagine that their hearing health will always be excellent. But, unfortunately, time can take its toll, and eventually, it can start to fail.

The problem is that detecting whether hearing loss is occurring is quite difficult if you’re the person it’s happening to. You don’t always know you have a problem with your hearing until much further down the road, usually a decade after the initial onset of symptoms.

SIGNS YOUR HEARING HEALTH ISN'T AS GOOD AS IT USED TO BE

That’s why it is critical to watch for signs that your hearing health might not be as good as you’d like it to be. If any of the following occur in your life, it could be a sign that something’s wrong:

Turning Up The Volume

Having to turn up the volume all the time is one sign of a hearing problem. You might need to constantly adjust the volume of the TV or radio to hear it.

Ringing In Your Ears

Hearing a whirring, buzzing, or ringing noise in your ears with no external cause is another sign that something’s gone a bit wrong with your hearing. This condition, called tinnitus, usually occurs when the ears don’t send the signals they should to the brain, causing a sort of hallucination.

Avoiding Social Situations

You may also find yourself inadvertently avoiding social situations if you find listening to people challenging. This problem is usually worse in crowded rooms where there are a lot of people talking and music playing.

Difficulty Listening To Women Or High-Pitched Sounds

Another sign of hearing loss is when it becomes harder to hear what women or children are saying, or when you notice that other people can hear high-pitched sounds, but you can’t.

This difficulty can affect your quality of life. For example, you can’t always hear birds chirping or high-pitched warning alarms, which are among the first signs of hearing loss.

How Technology Is Helping

Even if you believe you might have hearing loss based on the signs above, technology is helping patients more than ever. When you understand how Bluetooth hearing aids are evolving, you soon realize just how capable new devices are.

For example, today’s hearing aids usually have directional microphones. This technology means that it amplifies the sound of the person sitting in front of you in a crowded room, not the sound of other people. Furthermore, most devices now have onboard software that filters incoming sounds and further enhances their quality. This dual effect means that many of these devices are vastly more capable than they were just 10 years ago.

Hearing aid technology is also assisting by linking directly to other devices around the home and skipping out the requirement for sound to travel through the air first physically.

For example, hearing aids now have WiFi or Bluetooth built in, which means they can receive digital signals and convert them directly to sound in the speaker, reducing the risk of feedback. This technology makes phone calls easier to hear and understand.
