Alien Pretzels are such a fun treat to make for Halloween! I love candy coated pretzels…the sweet…the salt…such a great combo! These make a really fun snack to take to your child's school Halloween party or just for fun.
I made these last year for my daughter's school Halloween party. They were a big hit. I knew when I saw the adorable Wilton Candy Eyeballs that I had to turn them into a decorated pretzel! There are some really fun Halloween colors in the Wilton Candy Melts that make this project even easier! Don't forget the sprinkles and you will be set!
How to Make Alien Pretzels
First get all your supplies ready. You will need candy melts, candy eyeballs, big pretzel rods and sprinkles.
Now the tricky part is figuring out a way for the candy coating to dry on the pretzel without laying the pretzel down. My solution for this was to use my cooling racks to stand my pretzels up in after I dipped them. It worked GREAT! It did help to put a towel under the rack so the pretzel doesn't slip down.
I melted my candy melts in the microwave. Just put some candy melts into a microwave friendly bowl and heat according to package directions. You will dip about 1/2 of the pretzel into the melted candy to cover it really well. You may need to use a butter knife or spoon to spread it on really well. Before the candy dries you need to put your eyeballs and sprinkles on the pretzel. Now put it into the cooling rack to dry.
I put my sprinkles on over a piece of wax paper. I noticed when I was done that I had a LOT of wasted sprinkles.
I decided to do some of my leftover pretzels and just have a fun color mixture of sprinkles. We snacked on those at home! Waste not, want not..right!
I think these Alien Pretzels turned out really cute. It was a very easy Halloween treat to make and something the kids could definitely help with. Be sure to check out my post on Costume Ideas for Sisters if you need some help with coordinating girl costumes!
