WHY IS MUSIC IMPORTANT FOR KIDS
There is actually a lot of research that shows how important music really is in our lives. It is a fact that music uses both sides of our brains and is super valuable in brain development.
Music is an art form in many ways and also helps kids develop rhythm!Â
Kids have to find out different ways to express themselves and music may be their way of expression.
7 WAYS TO ENCOURAGE YOUR KIDS TO LOVE MUSIC
There are countless ways to encourage your kids to love music. These 7 ways are easy and FUN!Â
Your kids will be thrilled about participating in all of these musical activities.Â
LISTEN TO MUSIC AT HOME
This first way to encourage your kids to love music is pretty basic, but can be overlooked. Play music at home. Period.Â
By playing different kinds of music in the home, kids will be introduced to different types of music.
Try to resist only listening to your favorite kind of music and change it up so kids can hear all sorts of music from country to classical!
SING TO YOUR KIDS
Singing to my kids is something I have done since they were in the womb. I love to sing and I even make up silly nonsense songs.
What I have found in the last 20 years of parenting is that because I am always singing….my kids are always singing.
You do NOT have to have a fancy singing voice in order to sing to your kids! Kids love to hear their parents sing no matter how they sound, LOL.
ATTEND CONCERTS
I am not recommending that you spend a ton of money going to every A list singing concert that comes to your town.Â
There are MANY free concerts going on in communities all over the USA. Taking the kids to school band and vocal concerts to free concerts in the park will expose the kids to all kinds of music.
Concerts show children music in the form of performing and opens up new doors for kids who develop a passion for music.
BUY MUSICAL TOYS
There are lots of great toys on the market that are musical in nature. These give kids hand on musical learning and fun.Â
We recently had the chance to review a new electronic music toy called BlipBlox. (thanks to BlipBlox for providing me with this toy to review, all opinions are 100% my own).Â
I can tell you that I was shocked by how fun BlipBlox really is for kids. My daughter was instantly hooked on playing with this toy (much to the Dr.'s office dismay, lol). This is a high tech synthesizer that makes amazing sounds and music and also has light features to make it even more special.Â
I don't profess to understand some of the technical terms, but this toy has 12 unique oscillator modulation schemes, one low pass filter, two envelope generators plus two LFO's. Apparently, even professional DJs are impressed with what this toy can do in terms of making music!Â
As a parent, I like that this is simple enough to keep my 6-year-old occupied, but my 13-year-old also enjoys trying out different sounds and music styles with it.Â
Blipblox has it's own built-in speaker and a 1/4″ audio-out port so it can connect to an external device. So it can be connected to a MIDI keyboard, drum machines or other controllers. You could even hook it up to a music production software!

PLAY AN INSTRUMENT
Introducing kids to instruments early is a great way to encourage your kids to love music. I loved giving my kids musical instrument toys when they were young even though those plastic drums did get annoying at times!
As kids get older it is a good idea to have them take lessons so they can learn to play an instrument.Â
Learning to read music is a great brain activity.
HAVE A DANCE PARTY
We love to have dance parties at my house as a way to burn calories, but it is also a great way to absorb music.Â
There is just something about loud upbeat music and smiling dancing kids that makes my heart feel happy!
We love to dance to fun kids music CD's.Â
UNWIND TO MUSIC
Music is a great way to unwind and relieve tension and stress. Teach children early to turn on some soothing music when they are worried or stressed out.Â
Play quiet, soothing music at bedtime to help children sleep!
