I just love Halloween and coming up with fun costumes for my kids. Last year one of my girls went as a Flapper Girl and it was adorable! I am going to show you how to make a flapper girl headband and costume at home for cheap!
We decided on a flapper girl costume when I found the cute black flapper dress at Goodwill for a couple of bucks. I knew that with a few cute accessories this costume would be perfect. This is definitely a costume you can put together on your own if you have the time to do some searching!
Flapper Girl Costume Essentials
There are certain things you really need to make your flapper girl costume look good.
You need a DRESS first and foremost! Traditionally the flapper dress is a straight dress and may have fringe on the bottom. They may also have layers of fringe. Flapper dresses can be any color, but are traditionally a solid color! The dresses may have fancy beadwork as well. Short-sleeves or sleeveless dresses were most common.
There should be some kind of shawl, feather boa, a short decorative jacket or a capelet to go with the flapper dress.
One big part of the flapper dress era was headpieces. There were so many beautiful headbands and head jewelry!! I will show you how to make a flapper girl headband at home below!!
You will probably want some kind of jewelry to go with your costume. Long strands of pearls or beads work great. Chokers were also really popular jewelry choices.
Heels that aren't too high and usually have straps were worn frequently. Don't forget some kind of small beaded clutch too!
How to Make a Flapper Girl Headband for Your Costume
I had located all the accessories for my daughter's costume except a pretty headband. This was something I knew I could create at home.
I bought a pretty beaded stretchy headband. Her dress was black so I just picked one that would go well with the black theme.
I loved the look of feathers in the headband so got a package of pretty feathers that matched the headband.
The headband needed some kind of centerpiece to pull it together. I found a round beaded piece in the hair section at the craft store.
I used my E6000 glue to glue the feathers onto the headband. Last, I just glued the round beaded centerpiece onto the top of the feather ends to hide that area.
I think it turned out amazing!!
