Hi there! Michelle from Dishes and Dust Bunnies here. I’m super excited for the opportunity to share with you another fantastic and super easy recipe for BBQ Meatballs!
Meatballs are one of those foods that can be served for just about any occasion – one of my favorite ways to serve them is as an appetizer for gatherings or parties with friends and family.
This BBQ meatball recipe makes for an absolutely perfect appetizer, and I know you’ll love it!
If you love meatballs as much as my family, you might even want to consider having a meatball party!
Friends and family can bring some of their own meatball creations to share have a little potluck – I think that sounds like a great idea, don’t you?
One of the simplest ways to serve meatballs is to create your own easy, sticky and delicious barbecue sauce. In practically no time you’ll have some wonderful classic and comforting BBQ meatballs!
For this recipe all you have to do cook up a batch of my homemade meatballs (or even use some of the store-bought kind if you like) and heat them up in the skillet some onions and the rest of the sauce ingredients.
Let these delicious little babies simmer on the stove for 15 to 20 minutes for the sauce to thicken up to your liking, then serve them as an appetizer with toothpicks on the side or even as a main dish over top of mashed potatoes or with the side of delicious crispy potato wedges.
If you’re feeling extra “saucy” (LOL), you might even want to double the sauce ingredients for more yumminess!

You can find the recipe below – I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do!
BBQ Meatballs
Ingredients:
- Prepared meatballs (for best results use my recipe here)
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup ketchup
- ¾ cup smoky/hickory flavored BBQ sauce
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 ½ tbsp. cider vinegar
- 2 tsps Worcestershire sauce
Instructions:
- If using my homemade meatball recipe, please prepare them first. If using store-bought meatballs, heat and cook according to directions.
- Whisk together the ingredients for the sauce in a measuring cup and set aside until needed.
- Using the same pan that you cooked the meatballs in, begin cooking the onions (medium heat) until they are softened. If you are using a fresh pan, make sure to add a little oil before cooking the onions.
- Once the onions have softened, add the sauce and combine.
- Turn up the heat and cook the sauce for about 5 minutes.
- Add the meatballs to the sauce and combine. Be careful not to break apart the balls.
- Turn the heat down and simmer for 15 – 20 minutes uncovered.
- The sauce should start to thicken as it simmers.
- As a main course, you can serve this over rice, mashed potatoes or just as they are along with some fries or potato wedges.
- As an appetizer, serve plated with toothpicks on the side.
