I cannot express how addictive this Caramel Puffed Popcorn really is…I almost feel badly for sharing this recipe! 🙂 My husband came home raving about this delicious caramel popcorn someone gave him. He brought a bag of it home and I tried it…later when he asked where the bag was…I had to sheepishly admit that I ate it all!
I knew that this recipe would make a great addition to any kind of party…but definitely a football party! So if you are needing a great snack recipe for big upcoming play off games or the Super Bowl…this one is amazing! I used the recipe I found over at Silo Hill Farm.
One great thing about this Caramel Puffed Popcorn is that there are no kernals to get stuck in your teeth! This Caramel Puffed Popcorn has a sweet and salty taste to it also that is just plain delightful! In our area the puff popcorn I can find in the store is Chester's brand. I know that there are other brands in other parts of the country.
Ingredients Needed for Caramel Puffed Popcorn
2 bags of puff popcorn butter flavor (around 7-8 ounces)
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon baking soda
How to Make Caramel Puffed Popcorn
Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.
Take a very large bowl or even stock pot and spray with non-stick cooking spray.
Add your puff popcorn to this large pot.
In a 2 quart sauce pan on the stove you will add your butter, brown sugar and corn syrup. Bring this mixture to a boil and cook for a couple of minutes, stirring frequently.
Add your baking soda to this mixture and stir. It will start to foam up, stir well and remove from the heat.
Pour mixture over your puff popcorn and stir well. Try to get all the puff popcorn covered nicely. (this was actually easier than I thought it would be)
Take a jelly roll pan or cookie sheet and spray with non-stick cooking spray. Spread your caramel coated puff popcorn onto the pan and bake for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes or so.
When the Caramel Puffed Popcorn is done baking, take it out of the oven and spread it out on a big piece of wax paper to cool. You can break up any clumps of puffed corn that have stuck together.
This is great stored in an airtight container for 4 or more days…not that I think it will last that long!
