If you love comfort food and also want a new way to use leftover chili then you are in luck! 🙂 This Chili Dog Casserole may be just what you are looking for!
I was looking in my refrigerator recently and wanted to make something with ingredients I had on hand. I had some leftover chili that wasn't getting eaten….hot dogs….crescent rolls…and a recipe idea started to form! The Chili Dog Casserole was born and it is so easy to make…I know we will have it again and again!
I think this definitely falls into the comfort food category like a lot of casseroles do! It is also a one pan meal which I love! Less dirty dishes equals a happy mama!
Ingredients for Chili Dog Casserole
1 package of hot dogs, cut up into 1 inch slices
2-3 cups of chili (leftovers work great or you could use canned chili)
2 cans Crescent rolls
1-2 cups of shredded cheese
How to Make Chili Dog Casserole
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
First you will cut your package of hot dogs into 1 inch slices.
Put your chili and hot dog slices into a 9 x 13 baking pan and mix together.
Take the 2 cans of crescent rolls and pinch the dough into small pieces and drop onto the top of the chili mixture.
Bake for approximately 20-30 minutes until the crescent rolls are nicely browned on top. You want to make sure and cook it long enough or the underside of the dough won't be done!
During the last 5 minutes of baking, remove baking pan from oven and sprinkle with shredded cheese. Return pan to the oven and bake until cheese is nice and melted!
This was a great meal for a cold winter evening and my kids really liked it! You can tweak this to make it healthier by using turkey hot dogs, low-fat crescent rolls and less cheese! 🙂
