Crispy crowns are made with seasoned potatoes. They are also similar to tater tots but smaller. You can easily find these at the grocery store in the frozen section. There are different brands available too but for this recipe, we are going to use Ore-Ida. Other brands have different names for crispy crowns, some you'll find called tater puffs or potato puffs.

HOW TO COOK ORE-IDA CRISPY CROWNS IN AN AIR FRYER OVEN
If you have an air fryer oven instead of a countertop air fryer, you can use it for these potato bites. Here is the cooking method if you're using an air fryer oven:
- Same as with the countertop air fryer, preheat your air fryer oven to 400°F
- Place a single layer of crispy crowns on your air fryer oven rack.
- Cook them for about 12 to 15 minutes or just until they're golden brown and crispy.
Note: There is no need to add any oil or even turn these over mid-way through cooking. So easy!!
HOW TO COOK CRISPY CROWNS IN A CONVENTIONAL OVEN?
Another way of cooking these crispy crowns is with the conventional oven. This cooking method can also be done with a toaster oven. So, to cook these in a conventional oven:
- First, preheat your oven to 425°F
- Next, place the frozen crispy crowns in a single layer on a dark, nonstick baking sheet.
- Then, bake these for about 10 minutes.
- For this method, you will have to flip the crowns over and bake for an additional 8 to 13 minutes.
WHY NOT JUST COOK THESE IN A DEEP FRYER?
You can cook these in a deep fryer too but you're going to need lots of oil and you also need to keep an eye on it. Cooking these in the air fryer is just so much easier. You'll also get the same results of crispiness but it won't be oily like when cooked in a deep fryer.
Cooking with an air fryer is also healthier because it requires less to no oil. You can also just set the temp and cook time then just leave it. Plus, it won't take that long. However, if you want to try cooking it in a deep fryer for comparison, here are the directions:
- In your deep fryer, pour in about an inch to an inch and a half of oil
- Then, heat oil to 375°
- Once the oil is heated up, put in your crispy crowns and fry until golden brown
- Shake the deep fryer basket to remove excess oil then serve
