I had all the supplies needed for these paper plate masks except for the pipe cleaners. Of course, I found some pipe cleaners after I bought some, LOL. My favorite kid crafts are the ones that don't require going out and buying a bunch of STUFF.

How to Make a Paper Plate Mask
It is more fun to make several different animals….right? 🙂 Well, I am going to tell you how to make a paper plate pig mask, a paper plate cat mask and a paper plate duck mask!
How to Make a Paper Plate Pig Mask
- Cut your paper plate. You will want the mask area to be a little larger than half.
- Draw two round eyes and carefully cut them out.
- To make the snout, cut the end of a paper towel or toilet paper tube.
- Using the discarded part of the paper plate, trace the paper towel snout and cut it out. This will fit on the top of your snout.
- On the discarded part of the paper plate, cut out two triangles for the pig’s ears.
- Using a hot glue gun, glue the paper towel tube to the paper plate.
- Glue the paper plate circle on top of the toilet paper tube.
- Glue the two ears to the top of the plate.
- Paint the mask pink. Allow it to dry.
- Hot glue a straw to the back of the mask to make a handle for your mask.
How to Make a Paper Plate Cat Mask
- Cut your paper plate. You will want the mask area to be a little larger than half.
- Draw two round eyes and carefully cut them out.
- Out of the discarded part of the paper plate, cut out two triangle ears. Glue them to the top of your mask.
- Paint your kitty mask. We picked gray! Allow the mask to dry.
- Cut out a small heart shaped nose out of a pink foam sheet. If you have the sticky kind, peel and stick it in place. Otherwise, glue it on the mask.
- Also out of the pink foam sheet, cut out two small triangles and stick (or glue) them to the center of the ears.
- Cut a pipe cleaner in half. Then, fold the pipe cleaner in half. This will be your whiskers. Glue into place to the left of the nose. Repeat on the right side.
- Glue a straw to the back of the mask to form a handle for your kitty mask.
How to Make a Paper Plate Duck Mask
- Cut your paper plate. You will want the mask area to be a little larger than half.
- Draw two round eyes and carefully cut them out.
- Fold the discarded part of the paper plate in half. Cut out a triangle shape to make the beak.
- Trace the beak onto an orange foam sheet and cut out. Stick (or glue) onto your paper plate beak.
- Glue the beak onto the paper plate mask.
- Paint the mask yellow. Allow to dry.
- Glue a few feathers to the top of the mask.
- Glue a straw to the back of the mask to form a handle for your mask.
A Craft and a Story
My kids get a kick out of doing a craft that matches up with a book they like. It is easy to find great books that work with these animal masks.
Here are some that we love!
I know this is an old book, but we just love the classic Three Little Pigs. I personally enjoy the Golden Book version! Another fun pig themed book is The Pirate Pig.
There are so many fun cat books it is hard to narrow it down. We love all the Pete the Cat books and I know most kids do. Another cute cat book is If You Give a Cat a Cupcake.
A Cuddle for Little Duck is a very sweet story book. Another adorable duck book is called The Duck Who Flew Upside Down. Too fun!
