My girls have always loved rainbows especially when they were little. We see some amazing rainbows in Kansas because the horizon stretches on and on.
While your children are working on these rainbow coloring pages it is a good time to talk to them about rainbows.
Here is some interesting information about rainbows that will help your children learn while they have fun.
- We only see part of the rainbow. Rainbows are actually a full circle of light, but since we are standing on the ground we only see half or less of the circle.
- They are created by reflection and refraction of light in water droplets in the atmosphere. You can't actually touch a rainbow.
- Rainbows can be seen in rain, fog, mist, dew and even just spray from the water.
- There are 7 colors present in the rainbow. The colors are in the order of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.
- It is possible to see a double rainbow and very rarely a third or fourth rainbow can be seen.
- Christians believe that the rainbow is shown as a reminder of God's promise to never flood the entire earth again.
