Chicken Parmesan is an Italian-themed main dish that is well-loved.
There are lots of side dishes that can go along with this dinner recipe.

WHY IS IT CALLED CHICKEN PARMESAN?
The original name of this dish is Chicken Parmigiana, but it has been shortened Parmesan.
This dish is not actually an Italian original, but an offshot of the Italian dish or Eggplant Parmigiana. It was created by Italian-Americans and they swapped out the eggplant for chicken.

INGREDIENTS FOR AIR FRYER PARMESAN CHICKEN
This is a quick and easy recipe with some basic staple ingredients. I have tried to use some lower-fat and healthier recipe ingredients.
- Chicken Breasts
- Egg
- Whole Wheat Breadcrumbs
- Grated Parmesan Cheese (Reduced Fat)
- Italian Seasoning
- Lite Marinara Sauce
- Shredded Mozzarella Cheese (Reduced Fat)
- Non-aerosol Olive Oil Spray

HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER CHICKEN PARMESAN
Parmesan Chicken comes out so good in the air fryer. The chicken is nice and crispy yet still juicy inside.

STEP ONE: PREPARE CHICKEN
Slice the chicken breasts in half, lengthwise, to get 4 thinly sliced cutlets.
Lightly pound the thicker area of the breast, with a meat mallet, to get an even thickness for even cooking.

STEP TWO: COAT CHICKEN
Whisk the egg in a shallow bowl.
In a separate shallow bowl combine breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese and Italian seasonings. Stir to mix well.
Dip each chicken cutlet into the whisked egg and then dredge it in the breadcrumb mixture.
Repeat with the remaining cutlets.

STEP THREE: AIR FRY
Lightly spray the air fryer basket with olive oil spray.
Place the breaded chicken breasts in a single layer and spray the tops very lightly with olive oil spray.
Air fry at 350F for 6 minutes.

STEP FOUR: TOP CHICKEN
Flip the cutlets and spread about two tablespoons of marinara sauce on each cutlet.
Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the marinara sauce.
Air fry again at 350F for another 4 minutes.
If you are using a smaller air fryer you may need to cook these in batches. Repeat the process as necessary to cook all 4 chicken cutlets.

WW POINTS FOR AIR FRYER CHICKEN PARMESAN
If you are following the WW program this is a great main dish recipe!
It is low in points and filling.
There are 3 points per serving on the blue and purple plans and 6 points on the green plan.
On the current WeightWatchers Program (2023) it is 3 points per serving. Serving size is one chicken parmesan.
