WHY MAKE SUGAR-FREE BBQ SAUCE?

You may be wondering why you should go to the trouble to make sugar-free BBQ sauce. There are some people who need to limit their sugar intake due to diabetes and other health conditions.

People who are trying to lose weight are typically trying to eat foods that have less sugar.

Of course those who are on Atkins or other low-carb eating plans will want to find alternative recipes for BBQ sauce.

Traditional BBQ sauce is usually fairly heavy with sugar to give it that sweet tang. This recipe for Weight Watchers BBQ sauce uses a sugar alternative that keeps the regular BBQ flavor without the real sugar. Did I mention it is zero points?? 🙂

HOW TO MAKE WEIGHT WATCHERS BBQ SAUCE (SUGAR-FREE)

I love simple and easy recipes and this one fits the bill perfectly. Sweet, tangy, and smokey goodness in every tablespoon! It is hard to believe that this is a Weight Watchers BBQ Sauce…it doesn't taste like “diet” food at all.

STEP ONE: COMBINE INGREDIENTS

Start off by combining all the ingredients into a medium saucepan.

Whisk these ingredients very well so the mixture is lump-free.

Please note: if you are using my WW Sugar-Free ketchup in this recipe then follow the recipe exactly. If you are using store-bought sugar-free ketchup then add 1 teaspoon of garlic powder and 1 teaspoon of onion powder to the recipe. The store-bought sugar-free ketchup isn't as flavorful as my homemade ketchup recipe and it will need a little flavor boost.

STEP TWO: BOIL

Now that the ingredients are well-combined it is time to heat it all up. Turn the burner to medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a boil. It will probably bubble and splatter so wear an apron!

When it begins to boil, reduce it to medium heat and let it simmer for 20 minutes or until it has thickened to your desired consistency.

STEP THREE: COOL AND STORE

When the BBQ sauce is done cooking, remove it from the heat. Allow the sauce to cool completely.

Now you want to pour the sauce into a clean glass jar or jars to store. This makes about 2 cups of sauce.

The sauce should stay good for up to a month in the refrigerator.

This homemade Weight Watchers BBQ Sauce is going to be a deep red color rather than the brown color of store-bought sauces.

On the current WeightWatchers Program (2023) it is zero points per serving.

Recipe Notes

If you use my homemade sugar-free ketchup recipe for this then follow recipe above as written. If using a store bought ketchup, please add 1 teaspoon of Garlic Powder and 1 teaspoon of Onion Powder because it isn't as flavorful as homemade.

The mixture will bubble and spatter during the simmering process so wear an apron!

Because Swerve Brown does not caramelize like traditional brown sugar, the BBQ sauce is not as brown as the store-bought variety. It has a deeper dark red color. But it is tangy, sweet and very smoky.

There are zero points for Weight Watchers for all 3 plans, green, blue and purple PER 1 tablespoon serving.

On the current WeightWatchers Program (2023) it is ZERO points per serving.
