So I have developed a huge love for vintage “junk” the past few years. My husband and I go “antiquing” for vintage stuff when we have time. I have wanted to do more decorating at Christmas with vintage items and am finally getting it done this year. I made a DIY vintage Christmas tree and it turned out fabulous! Every time I walk past I am just tickled pink.
This is a really easy project for anyone to make! I got my vintage Christmas tree done in an hour!!

DIY Vintage Christmas Tree
Find the Right Tree
There is a small corner shelf in my hallway that was perfect for a small tree.
I didn't want to use a regular “green” tree for this DIY project. I decided that a silver tree had a really vintage feel to it. Despite looking for an actual vintage tree at yard sales and flea markets I didn't have any luck. Hobby Lobby had the best selection of smaller trees that I could find. I ended up getting a 4 foot tree.
You can decide what kind of tree will look best at your house!
Grab an Old Pail
I found an old vintage white enamel pail at an antique mall for a great price. This bucket makes a great “base” for my tree.
There are probably ways you could secure the tree “permanently” into the pail, but I decided not to do that. I just set it in the pail. That way I can use the pail for other things during the rest of the year if I want to.
Then I wanted to cover the base of the tree inside the pail. I dug in my tote of “unused” Christmas decorations and found an old garland I made 20 years ago for my first Christmas after I got married!! This hasn't been used in a while and it has a vintage feel to it.
I just put it in the bucket and wrapped it around and it looked great!
Decorate with Vintage Ornaments
I have been buying vintage ornaments at garage sales when I see them for a good price. They look amazing on the silver tree!! I still have some ornaments from when I was a little girl that are perfect for this DIY Vintage Christmas Tree.
One of my favorites is this little Santa ornament. It is a very close match to the one on Lampoons Christmas Vacation…after the tree catches on fire!!
I completed the tree by sitting my vintage elf at the base of the tree!
