ALL ABOUT TILAPIA
I am not overly knowledgeable about different kinds of seafood. So I have been trying to become more educated about what I am eating and the benefits!
This recipe is made using tilapia as the fish for the soft tacos.
Here are some things I have learned about tilapia:
- Tilapia is the 4th most consumed type of fish in the US
- It is a mild-flavored fish–that is probably why I like it! No fishy taste or smell!
- Tilapia is inexpensive
- It is high in protein and low in calories
There are some concerns about the way tilapia are farmed. The majority of the concerns come out of farming practices in China. So when you are looking at tilapia, it is a good idea to buy tilapia that is farmed in the USA or Canada.

If you add any sauce, avocado, etc to the tacos, then you will need to add those points!
STEP ONE: PREPARE BAKING DISH
Start off by preparing your baking dish. Take 1/2 a teaspoon of avocado oil and cover the bottom of the baking pan.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
STEP TWO: PREPARE FISH FILLETS
Now place the cajun seasoning and the remaining avocado oil into a small bowl and stir to combine.
Coat the Tilapia fillets with the seasoning mixture. Place coated fillets into the baking dish.
STEP THREE: BAKE
Bake the Tilapia fillets for 20 minutes or so. You want the fish to flake easily with a fork.
While the fish is baking, you can shred the carrot and cabbage.
STEP FOUR: ASSEMBLE TACOS
When the fish is done cooking, remove it from the oven.
Cut each fillet into three equal sections.
Assemble the soft tacos by adding 1/3 of a fish fillet with carrot, and cabbage and squeezing a little fresh lime juice over the top. Add some sliced avocado if desired.
